The car is a 1750 HL in Damask Red with Velour Upholstery. It was purchased by my father on May 3rd 1973 from Thomas Startin, Orphanage Road, Erdington, Birmingham. The car was rust proofed (Total Protection, similar to Zibart) and the paintwork was Armour glazed. A Britax full length Sunroof was fitted soon after purchase, along with Hazard Warning Lights, a Rev Counter and Oil Pressure Gauge and finally a Tow bar. I inherited the car on March 10th 2008, bringing it back from Birmingham on a trailer. It had not been on the road for at least 15 years, but because it had always been well looked after and was kept in a garage (which I recently found out was originally the local fire station) and covered with a sheet, it was fine. The Odometer read a true 29,675 miles and the chrome and paintwork only needed dusting. To get it through the MOT, I stripped the brakes and fitted new rear cylinders and front flexible hoses, the track rod ends were replaced, a stainless exhaust fitted and the suspension pumped up. On my first test-drive the rear offside displacer unit failed and I drove the last 4 miles at a rather strange angle. Morry Cook has since supplied a replacement displacer unit. While waiting for the Displacer I took the Cylinder head off and fitted new exhaust seats to enable the car to run on Unleaded Fuel. I work for an Engine Reconditioning Firm ( Moss Engineering, Ledbury) so I did all the engine work myself. Photo’s (see below) were taken on March 8th 2008, before the replacement displacer unit was fitted. The photo of the Garage may be of interest, It is advertised as “A Garage in a Box” and cost an amazing £214.00 inclusive of Vat, plus £40.00 delivery (shipping weight was 114 Kg.)
