Mark tells us that he's going to have to do some work on the car in order to get it back to its former glory. Currently its got either a blown gasket or a cracked head. It also has old rusty water stain's all over the engine bay. However he hopes to get it back on the road soon and to that end has acquired replacement seats, door cards and a dash. He even has a period car radio to put in it.
Mark tells us that he's owned quite a few Maxi's over the years:
"I first owned one back in 1981, it was my Dad`s British Racing Green 1500 (APF 635H). But the gearbox went and it got scrapped. A few years later I had a 1978 1750 HL, in metallic blue, then a late 1980’s Metallic Pewter Grey Series 2, 1.7HLS. Now I own a Series 2, 1.7HL in Russet Brown with 31,000 on the clock, a Teal blue Maxi (see above) and an early 1500 in Conneaut Grey, with inner wings that have welded extensions (perhaps an early pre-production model?). Recently, I wanted to buy an M Reg 1750 HL, but my other half was not too pleased! What I really want is an early HL, but I need to sell one of the others. PS: I also have an early Series 2 Vermillion Red 2.2HL Princess, which Corgi Classics have used to produce a model. " |
