Nairn Hindhaugh of Brisbane Australia explains how he became involved with British Leyland and the Austin Maxi.

I own a 1974 Austin Maxi 1750 (see below), which was a private import into Australia. They were never sold in this country, and in all, there were probably no more than ten Maxis here, of which there are only about three still running. Living in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, it is used an every day car, and in 12 years of ownership, after an extensive rebuild, it has never let me down. But let's start at the beginning.

Brisbane in relation to the rest of Australia

The pic of the car on its own (see left) was taken back in '99 on the way to Adelaide and is 'somewhere' in South Australia, just over the border from NSW and not far from Broken Hill. I think it may give some idea of the vasteness of this country. I've also got photos taken through the windscreen of the long straight road on that trip, but will send them later.
