GTFM Radio* “Driver’s Seat”** - Butty Bay Run 2009MY In Association with Pontypridd Town Council & Pontypridd High School Supported by Practical Classics Magazine Saturday 11th July 2009 |
|
This classic car run is
nostalgic nod back to those days when most families from the Welsh
valleys spent their holidays down Porthcawl in a caravan….usually
“Miner’s Fortnight”. The “Butty” Bay Run is all about recreating that
journey from the valleys to Porthcawl in classic cars and using the
“old” roads as much as possible to get there and ending back up in
Pontypridd High School which is built near to the site of the old Albion
colliery in Cilfynydd....the Welsh Valleys version of the London to
Brighton Run.
Please note there are spaces left for the run itself. So if you own a “family” car that would have been used to make the journey in the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s (or you know someone who does) and like to know more and take part in the run (but don’t forget it’s fancy dress or period dress) then please email me (Ian Edwards) at………… Or ring me (evenings or weekends) on…………. 01443 791490 or 07969 353 954

"THE BUTTY BAY RUN EXPERIENCE" PONTYPRIDD HIGH SCHOOL SATURDAY JULY 11TH - NOON TO 5 PM
On Saturday July 11th (while the Butty Bay Run 2009MY is taking place) we are aiming to put together a display of 50 classic Mini’s and also 25 Vw Camper vans (Split Screen and original Bay Windows) plus put on a small Model Fair (a cross between a model show and a toy fair) for the…….. “Butty Bay Run Experience” at Pontypridd High School (15 miles north of Cardiff, just off the A470 at Cilfynydd). There is no charge to be involved in the event (or for members of the public to come along), all we are asking is for a small donation towards our good causes. We are raising money for 2 disabled schools (in Tonteg and Aberdare), the RCT Tigers (a disabled football team) and a disabled group in Pontypridd. There are several trophies up for grabs including for Martin’s (most) marvellous Mini of the day (the “George” Trophy) and for the coolest camper of the day (the Fridge Trophy ?) and also a trophy for the person with the best fancy dress. So if you like showing your Mini, Camper or models (we are looking for all types of models including trains, boats, planes and radio controlled stuff too, not just cars), fancy a laugh and would like to help raise money for several good causes (or if you know someone else who would) then please email me, Ian Edwards, at driversseat@gtfm.co.uk or ring me (evenings or weekends) on 01443 791490 or 07969 353 954. Oh and we also need marshals, if you fancy helping out…. Look forward to hearing from you...
Many thanks
